In an effort to make the employees to better understand how their salaries are calculated, their employment terms and benefits, the Ministry of Manpower has made certain amendments to the Employment Act. These amendments are applicable from 1-April-2016. According to these changes, employers will be required to issue itemized pay slips and key employment terms (KETs) to employees covered under the Employment Act. There will also be a new framework to treat less severe breaches of the Employment Act according to a recent press release MOM has published.

MOM, in its press release has stated that the changes are the result of a review of the Employment Act. “Feedback was obtained through several platforms, including public consultations conducted in July to October 2013. Proposals were evaluated by employers, unions and the Government” said the MOM.
